Seniors from far and wide join forces at Marion
The ever popular Metro Seniors Supa Series has come to a close, with fourty two teams competing on the beautifully prepared Marion greens.
For this event this year, we trialled an eight round tournament over two days, in place of the normal four rounds per day, for two days. This allowed for better rink draws and eliminating the possibility of playing against a team twice, plus an accumulated prize pool for the two days.
In a warm 30+ degrees, round one was underway just after 10am on Monday morning where the largest win saw Chris Firth’s rink (Evans, Behenna and Davidson) secure a 20-6 win, whilst in round two Tom Ellis’ rink (Bertelmeier, Hamill and Bryant) we’re able to land a 17-3 win over their opponents.
Round three saw Bill Hughes’ rink lock up a 20 shot win (22-2) over their opponents and Chris Firth’s rink also a taking another big win (20-5) to end day one undefeated. Also finishing day one undefeated with 4 wins +26, was Round two’s highlight; Tom Ellis and co.
Day Two was upon us, with Round five highlights coming from Tom Ellis’ rink again bagging a 24-5 win, following up with three wins closing out their campaign on a high. Standing tall on day 2 securing three wins and a draw was Jack Gallagher’s rink (Michael Steele, Phil Smyth and Mark Tonkin) who took out the best performed rink for Day 2.
Daryll Steinwedel’s rink (Merrit, G Steinwedel and Ritchie) fought strong to hold off their opponents with two wins in round 5 and 6, winning both games by just one shot, to then finish with two strong performances sealing a 13-3 win and a 15-2 win to finish their campaign.
Finish all too strong for their competition was undefeated Firth, Evans, Behenna and Davidson finishing their two day campaign with 8 wins +86, sealing well earnt W (win).
Winners from the two days are as below;
1st: 8 Wins +86 – Firth, Evans, Behenna and Davidson.
