Lawson Lands Media Recognition Award
Colonel Light Gardens Bowling Club’s Peter Lawson claimed the Media Recognition Award at the recent Bowls SA Awards night.
Peter has actively grown the Colonel Light Gardens social media following, ensures the website is up to date, writes humorous in-depth analysis of the games he’s involved in and was instrumental this year with a successful media release to the Advertiser, which went viral.
Actively engaging with local council and politicians ensures the Colonel Light Gardens Bowling Club keeps a high visibility of bowls in the community to the extent that the Premier of South Australia utilized the club facilities for their campaign to introduce legislation for free travel for seniors.
Lawson said it was “thrilling” to win the award.
“It is great reward for a lot of effort,” he said.
“I really enjoy it, the late nights after bowls coming up with a little bit of a write up for socials and just engaging with the community.”
Lawson said having a social media presence was important for his club.
“As a small club with 35 pennant members and a great Night Owls community, it is about getting people involved in the club,” he said.
“We are lucky to not only have the bowling club, but the croquet club and the tennis club, it is a great place for people to meet.
“As there is a grab for players, you have to stand out and to do that you have to have good culture, good governance and a place that is fun.”
