Former MP and Henley Bowler – Iain Evans Appointed as President of Bowls Australia
Iain Evans has been appointed as the new President of Bowls Australia by the Board following their recent November Annual General Meeting and subsequent Board Meeting. His background includes being a former Leader of the South Australian Liberal Party and Minister for Recreation Sport and Racing. Evans brings extensive experience from his 21-year tenure in the South Australian Parliament until 2014, where he served as a Minister for 5 years.
Additionally, he is a member of Henley Bowling Club (recently stepping up from Night Owls Social bowls for his first pennant match) and holds a Graduate qualification from the Australian Institute of Company Directors Course. With over 30 years of service on various state, national, and international Boards across different sectors including sport, recreation, horticulture, seafood, health, tourism, and indigenous affairs; Evans is well-equipped to lead Bowls Australia into its next chapter.
The wealth of experience that Evans brings to his new role promises positive developments for the sport of bowls at both national and grassroots levels.
All the President’s Men
Henley Bowling Club President Graeme Eckert might have to up his game following the announcement last week that Bowls Australia has elected Evans as national President. Iain is a bowler at Henley along with the state governing body Bowls SA President Tim Dodds who plays pennant bowls at the same club. At least Graeme won’t have far to go should he have any issues.
