Prepare your club for the ‘A Buck a Bowl’ event during Pink Round happening from 4 – 9  November 2024

In line with Bowls SA’s partnership with the Breast Cancer Network Australia, we are happy to join forces with Bute Bowling Club’s Kate Brokate’s successful fundraiser ‘A Buck a Bowl’.

The process is simple – Gather donations in a bucket at your club, then deposit the collected funds into your bank account.

Afterward, transfer the money online, clicking donate on this link: https://pinksportsday.bcna.org.au/my-fundraising/2074/bowls-sa-inc

Bowls SA has created PLAY4BCNA Lawn Bowls Pink Sports Day to facilitate direct contributions from clubs and individuals towards breast cancer research

Kate (pictured above) explains her story “I am passionate about raising money for breast and prostate cancer research because of my personal experience with breast cancer. I had a double mastectomy and chemotherapy, realising the crucial support needed during such times. Witnessing the free support available, I feel compelled to pay it forward as many others will require similar assistance. Men also need support for prostate cancer, so in the past I split fundraising efforts between both causes”.

The emotional and physical toll of cancer is immense, and the free support provided is invaluable. By organizing ‘A Buck a Bowler’ initiative, where each player contributes a dollar during Pink Round 4 – 9 November, the bowling community can easily raise funds without extensive efforts. The simplicity of this approach has proven successful in gathering significant donations from various clubs on the Yorke Peninsula and other areas in the past. Bowlers may like to dress in pink, your club may wish to decorate the bucket – your choice completely.

Kate went further to clarify “Through collective efforts within bowling communities, we aim to make a substantial impact on cancer research funding. Every club likely has members affected by these cancers, emphasising the importance of our cause. Collaboration with organizations like Bowls SA and BCNA streamlines donation processes and maximizes contributions towards research”.

“My motivation stems from the overwhelming support received during my own battle with cancer and witnessing the prevalence of these diseases among club members. By uniting clubs for a dedicated fundraising week, we can leverage our numbers to make a meaningful difference in supporting vital research initiatives”.

Kate Brokate welcomes inquiries from clubs interested in participating and is committed to facilitating smooth donation procedures to benefit breast cancer research endeavors effectively. You can call Kate on 0413 942 423 or email Katherine.burr@bigpond.com
