After two days of action this week, the 2023-24 Champion of Champion Singles were crowned.

To start the event off on day one, a field of 47 women took to the greens at Hawthorn and Ascot Park Bowling Clubs in the round of 64.

At Ascot Park on day two, after a spirited comeback late in one of the women’s semifinal matches by Samantha Hislop (Salisbury), Karen Gatto (West Lakes) remained confident, becoming the eventual winner 21 shots to 14.

The other semifinal saw Beth Quinlan (Ascot Park) remain consistent the entire match to defeat Penelope McCarthy (Ardrossan) 21 shots to 9.

During the Women’s Champion of Champions Final, the lead changed multiple times in a close tussle between Beth Quinlan and Karen Gatto, before Karen rolled a two on the last end to secure the title 21 shots to 18.

The men’s field of 66 took to the greens of Adelaide, Grange and Ascot Park Bowling Clubs to start their matches.

In the men’s semifinals on day two at Ascot Park Jono Voigt (Angaston) lead all the way in his win over Will McPharlin (Port Wakefield) 21 shots to 9 while in a nail biter to the end Gary Thompson (Modbury) defeated Wayne Ruediger (Grange) 21 shots to 20.

The men’s final was a see-sawing contest with many swings before Jono Voigt finished strongly to take the Men’s Champion of Champion Singles Title 21 shots to 20.
